GEA – Make the Most of Your Health Coverage this Summer

July 8, 2024

Summer is a wonderful time to check in with yourself as it marks the halfway point through the year. It’s the perfect opportunity to make preventive care appointments and get ahead of your health. In this blog, we share four ways to get the most bang for your buck on your health coverage and how to decrease your medical expenses.

4 Ways to Make the Most of Your Health Coverage this Summer

Let’s look at four ways to stay healthy and enjoy the season to the fullest, while also making the most of your health coverage.

Schedule Preventive Services

If you’ve been pushing off your yearly physical, there is no time like the present. Scheduling a preventive care appointment gives you insights into your health and helps detect or prevent any health problems. This includes immunizations, cancer screenings, blood pressure checking, and other assessments and tests. These appointments are also a great time to talk with your doctor about any healthcare concerns you may have.

See a Dermatologist

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, as one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. And research shows that more patients are diagnosed with melanoma in the summer months. Luckily, most skin cancer can be cured if it’s detected early. This summer, make an appointment with a dermatologist so they can perform a full-body examination to address any potential areas of concern.

Plan Ahead for Travel

If you’re planning to visit a place that requires certain vaccinations or where certain illnesses are common this summer, visit your primary care physician before. At your appointment, your doctor will provide any immunizations needed.

Prioritize Your Mental Health

Though the winter blues are in the past, depression can still linger in the summer. If you’re struggling with mental health, take some time to prioritize yourself and make an appointment with a mental health professional. Plus, nowadays many providers offer virtual appointments so you can talk to a counselor whenever and wherever during your busy summer.

Prioritize Your Health All Year Long

By scheduling preventive services like annual check-ups and dermatologist appointments, you’re investing in a healthier you. These services not only detect and prevent health issues early on, but also ensure you can enjoy your summer. Remember, your physical and mental health is the most important thing, so make the most of your health coverage and prioritize your well-being not only this season, but every season.
